Northeast dwellings
Northeast residential buildings have strong regional characteristics and are an important part of traditional residential buildings in China. The most typical residential style in Northeast China is the adobe house facing north to south, with three independent houses being the most common, and two or five rooms are variants of three rooms. The fundamental reason why the house faces south is the need for lighting and heating. This architectural style caused by the natural environment was finally interpreted as an ideological custom and even developed into a feudal rule with hierarchical nature. In people's minds, north is the top, south is the bottom, and even sitting in the north facing south has become synonymous with reigning over the world.

In Jiangnan water town, most of the houses are wooden one-story and two-story halls. In order to adapt to the climate characteristics of the south of the Yangtze River, the layout of residential buildings is mostly halls, patios and courtyards. The structure is tile roof, bucket wall, Guanyin bucket ridge or horse head wall, forming a building group style with scattered heights and deep white walls.
